Looks like Ye did indeed keep true to his word on the second go ’round of his self implemented “G.O.O.D Friday.” Already with a leak from Mr. Hudson, another featuring himself, and now the full leak of Monster, which features a slew of familiar faces, alongside Kanye’s new favorite band, Indie artist Bon Iver. Also, word is this is the second track that will be seen on a Ye and Jay collabo project.
Now back to the task at hand. All in all, I think Monster a fairly decent record. The composition and production are pretty on point, per usual with anything Yeezy is involved in, however I do feel some of the lyrical concepts from the gang is a bit lacking.
The topic of Monster should have been somewhat of an easy idea to sink some teeth into, but I’m not too sure we got everybody’s best crack at it. By the end of the record, I simply forgot Ricky Rozay was even on it, first of all. Then you have Kanye dubbing himself as the best alive or dead (strange coming from him, I know), when he has the greatest alive (Hov) coming up later in the track. Now speaking of Jigga, did he really comment on raping and pillaging throughout his rhymes? Enough said. And now on to Miss Nicki, the most scrutinized of the bunch, before the release of course. I was enlightened, I have to say. While I did spend most of her verse attempting to decipher her wordplay, her flow was nicely on point and her voice inflections were notably sexy this time around, just saying. So there are my thoughts and opinion in a nut shell, now go develop your own and enjoy.
