Every day we come across well-intended artists that make an attempt at ameliorating an already epic song by remixing it in their own style. I don’t know about you, but looking for a good remix of a classic tune is like looking for your contact lens in the middle of the dance floor.
A bit over three years ago I had my first experience of the renowned night club Fabric in the heart of London, to go see my friend Nick lay down a set. Several floors of rooms diversified by each DJ on that night make that place a musical dojo. Whatever butters your muffin, they had it. A sober trance induced by musical mastery is what I was submitted to.
That being said, the boys n girls at Fabric management, not stupid in the least, release an album of their best sets. Diplo’s edition is the 24th of over 40 all incredibly unique and epic Farbiclive sets.
As I was preparing for one of my many meetings last week, I ran across Diplo’s epic transition between The Cure’s Lovesong and Outkast’s B.O.B. It is amazing how some people can listen to a song, and within a matter of seconds, a number of paralleling tunes pop up in their head. “Damn, that would mix well’ is an exemplary thought crossing his mind.
It was blatant that these two bad boys needed to be posted in our family dojo. Hoping it has the same effect on you as it did on me, here’s Diplo’s transitional mastery. Enjoy.
The Cure – Lovesong (Diplo Remix)
Outkast – B.O.B. (Diplo Remix)

I made this list using various random criteria including, but not limited to, could I listen to the whole thing straight thru without using the restroom or checking my email? Is there at least one song I can bang in the club on the Album? Did the Artist(s) take the time to craft a work of musical art, or did they just go in and spit some retarded shit over random producers? Could my Mom listen to it? (Not really). Anyway here are my faves of the year in this order:
Albums
1) Major Lazer- Guns Don't Kill People, Lazers Do Major Lazer Website
2) Raekwon- Only Built For Cuban Linx PT II More Raekwon
3) Drake - So Far Gone Drake's Blog

10)Mavado - Mr. Brooks... A Better Tomorrow Get to know Mavado Here
Singles
This was easy, did I get requests for this? Was it something I felt comfortable going to my PD with, no matter how far outside the box? Singles should move your feet and uplift your heart, stimulating your brain in the process (sometimes guiltily so), did the songs that I loved this year, do that? I have to say Yes! Please feel free to post your Top 10 in the comment sections!
1)Major Lazer - Pon di Floor Major Lazer Website

Without a doubt The Twelves are one of the best production duos to have emerged from the blogs, their breakthrough came in July of 2007 when they remixed the track "Boyz" from M.I.A's sophomore album, Kala. The reworked track with an added club feel resulted in one of the most talked about remixes of 2007. The blog coverage surrounding the remix was extensive and eventually the track started to appear in sets from high profile djs around the world, including Kissy Sell Out, who played it on BBC's "In New Djs We Trust" series.
The duo followed "Boyz" with equally well received remixes for Asobi Seksu and Erlend Oye, both of which featured on a number of blogs and music related sites. This caught the attention of a number of labels, including Modular Records who commissioned a "Twelves Remix" of the song "Get Lucky" by New Young Pony Club.
This year has been a very successful one for The Twelves, they were most recently commissioned to remix big name tracks such as La Roux’s "In For The Kill", A-Ha’s "Take On Me", Groove Armada's "Drop the Tough" and Metric’s "Help I'm Alive". They also did a mini-mix for the BBC Radio 1 show, Annie Mac’s Mash-up, it was so well received that they have been invited back to do another one at some point in the year.
Their success on the blog scene has been phenomenal this year, their cover of Daft Punk’s "Night Vision" being number 1 on the Hype Machine on four separate occasions along with their Mini-Mix and the remix of A-Ha which also topped their charts. The Twelves productions are always a constant force in the Hype Machine charts, such is the massive fan base they have in the online world they have amassed an astonishing 1.9 million plays on their myspace player too.
They played SXSW, with Spin Magazine making them one of their nine unknown acts to watch at the event, they are making their UK debut at this year’s prestigious LoveBox event and are making their debut at Paris’ legendary Social Club. Their live show is a one of a kind unique blend of live keyboards, drum machines, mash-ups and remixing on the fly. A key element for the duo is trying to improvise as much as possible, it’s the hottest ticket of 2009.

As I predicted many months back Ke$ha’s Tik Tok has blown up on the radio and she has suddenly become something of an overnight celebrity. Well I’ve just finished playing her album sampler and it’s pretty legit. Here’s another party joint from Ke$ha that you can expect to see on her debut album ‘Animal’ which is slated to drop Jan 5th 2010. Peace&(trey)Love.

This is your Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve. We will try to bring you one “chill” track every day. This is for when you get home and you are trying to unwind. You reach for that glass of wine or that unlit Black & Mild or maybe you reach for something more herbal. This track is for those times. We will try to bring you at least one a day. We are just your milkmen and I’m here to make a delivery. Chill…..
Today’s delivery is brought to you by Major Lazer. It might seem crazy that one of Major’s songs would ever be featured on Daily 2% because usually they put out the super jumpy dancehall style songs that could never been considered “chill” even with the loosest definition. But I have to say that I really enjoyed their album and most of the songs actually get you moving and groovin’ but one track really stood out amongst the rest because of how chill it really was. The track I’m talking about is called “Cash Flow” and it’s from Major’s latest album entitled Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazer Do. The track is dub mixed with electronica mixed with reggae mixed with experimentation? A true fan of music should really enjoy this track because its produced so well and especially at the end of the song when it tries to put you in a “trance” with the dubbed out effects. Check out the track below and chill…

I was on the phone with G.O.V. last night talking about how much we crave a new paradigm of thinking because the current standard seem to be so dated, boxed in and uninspiring. Long story short the conversation led to picking favorites, it seems like the second you settle for one, you’ve limited life’s palette and possibly neglected a whole world of endless possibilities and experiences. With that said I’m going to somewhat contradict myself because when it comes to music there’s one album that offers so much it deserves a little favoritism, by more then a hundred million people that is…
After spending a week with a good friend in Nantucket this summer, literally blasting Thriller the entire time, I came to the conclusion that this album was the one, the two, the three, the four… If Thriller was a girl, I’d get down on my knees and propose this minute. Nothing comes close to the feelgood vibe of that album, the sound is universal, the lyrics are real and it was made with so much love, sincerity and care that it’s no secret why an entire world would embrace it the way it has. For those of you just getting into MJ, this all happened long before he passed away. If a girl was Thriller, I probably wouldn’t have so much trouble with the current paradigm.
Well, if you haven’t guess by now this song reminds me of a Quincy Jones production. Idjut apparently shares similar affection for the album because everything from the horn arrangement to the guitar licks on this remix is screaming Quincy inspiration and I love it. Without further ado, here’s a 7 minute retro inspired remix of Baby Can’t Stop, enjoy.
Lindstrøm & Christabelle - Baby Can’t Stop (Idjut Boys Remix)
Fresh off a plane and back home, I cannot believe it. Just when I thought I had heard it all.
Well... GAME OVER. even better, the TRIFECTA is complete.
Everyday, I get requests to put up new breaking songs or tracks: Weezy F baby, Bird Man, Sade. But its not until I came across DJ A$ that I was really surprised at his musical knowledge. His appitite for keeping you moving on the dance floor with his musical story. Its hard to express the feelings that are giong thru me as not only am I typing this review but listening to his latest and greatest Check Your Receipt.
