Every year football fans from around the World look forward to what I consider the greatest sporting event in the world, the Super Bowl!  Almost as eagerly anticipated as the Super Bowl, is the Super Bowl commercials.  Companies pay big time moolah for the chance to chance to get in front of millions of potential consumers.  Think about it, long after the game is over we still find ourselves debating over the water cooler which Super Bowl commercial was the funniest every year.  So naturally a funny Super Bowl Commercial has the potential to really make a company, don't believe thing Go Daddy.com.  Last year Doritos came up with the idea to host a contest for the public to make there own Super Bowl commercial.  The winner last year was, hmmm I forget let me look into my crystal ball.  Oh yeah that's right it was the commercial featuring the guy throwing the crystal ball thru the vending machine to get his free Doritos.  Well this year the stakes have been raised, Doritos will air three consumer-created :30 Doritos spots during the Super Bowl XLIV broadcast and give the winners $5 million if the homemade ads claim the top three spots of the USA TODAY Ad Meter. This year Indy's own Film Maker Extraordinaire Jeff Miner has decided to throw his hat into mix with his Doritos spoof of Survivor Man. I won't ruin the video by telling you anymore, I will let you watch yourself.  Pretty hilarious.  Let's get behind Jeff and support his video, and who knows come Super Bowl we may get a chance to see the Colts and Jeff Miner in the spotlight.

WHEN DANGERMOUSE DECIDED TO TAKE JAY-Z'S BLACK ALBUM AND MASH IT UP WITH CLASSIC BEATLE'S TUNES, THE RESULT WAS AN INSTANT CLASSIC CONCEPT ALBUM.  NOW ANOTHER CONTENDER STEPS INTO THE JIGGA MASH UP ARENA, AND THEY GO BY THE NAME OF "MUSIC WITHOUT BORDERS".  AMERICAN GANGSTER HAS JUST BECOME HINDUSTANI GANGSTER, AND INSTEAD OF THE BEATLES ITS INDIAN BALLADS AND BEATS.  THE FIRST TRACK I WAS EXPOSED TO WAS  A MASHUP OF "I KNOW", MY FIRST THOUGHT SOMEBODY PACK THE HOOKAH WE GOT US A BURNER. SIMPLY PUT  HINDUSTANI DOESN'T DISSAPOINT. ON "NO HOOK" WE GET A CHANCE TO HEAR SAMPLES OF INDIAN GANGSTER CINEMA LACED SEEMLESSLY THRU JIGGA VOCALS.  I'M READY FOR THE MOVIE NOW, WHOSE PLAYING DENZEL IN HINDUSTANI GANGSTER? Yo, microphone check one two what is this
The five foot assassin with the ruffneck business
I float like gravity, never had a cavity
Got more rhymes than the Winans got family

One thing you have to understand you cannot keep Moore Fire down. One stolen laptop later (and to my twelve year old thief, good luck as a career criminal see you on Cops) I arise back from the dead to bless you with some old school meets 2009. For all of you Tribe Called Quest Fans you will definitely enjoy my next offering. Consequence and Kid Cudi have teamed up to do a remake of the classic Low End Theory cut “ Buggin Out”. I have to admit when I saw Consequence and Kid Cudi with the bugged out eyes, it brought back memories of Q-tip and Fife totally freaking out in the original video. Kid Cudi’s in classic Cudi form kills it when he says “ I know I’d be the man if I cold pulled the plug on Autune, but I can’t and that’s bugged”. So as I spend the rest of my week feverishly restoring my music collection, I leave you with the video Consequence and Kid Cudi in “Buggin Out 09”.

So I'm back, I know I know enough of the slackness.  Well in my absence I've been finishing up a new mix tape "The 317 Dialogues", which can be downloaded at this very site. Enough of the shameless plugs, let's get down to why you come here, for superior musical insight.  Okay so today I want to talk about one of  my new favorite bands XX.  Definitely one of my early favs of 2009.  XX is composed of four 20 years olds from South London who use soulful lyrics and synthetic loops as if they were dropped off on this planet by some advanced species.  First off go ahead and try to put XX in a musical category, I dare you.  Call it R&B futuristic pop music, or maybe soulful harmonious resonance.  Maybe we should for now just call it XX.  With self proclaimed influences that vary from The Cure to Genuwine, from the Kills to Missy Elliott, would you expect  anything less than far from the norm?  Without an actual drummer ( they use a drum machine)  XX manages to create abstract melodic music that is neither gimmicky or like anything you are sure to hear anytime soon. I imagine if I was orbiting around the earth XX would be the soundtrack playing in my shuttle.  I suggest digesting XX with a superior music system, low lights and that person you've been trying to get in the mood for oh so long.  XX's self titled album XX definitely holds it own with the likes of John Legend and Maxwell in the category of putting your lil mama in the right mood.  So now that  I've built the anticipation so high that you're considering using  XX in your date night bag of tricks, let me give you a taste.  Today's selections are Basic Space and VCR.  Let me know what you think, that's what we have a comment section for.  Remember Crush Entertainment is the only site with Moore Fire than Southern California.

Last night as I found myself wasting two hours of my life watching "The Informers", I thought about music and it's place in movies.  For those of you who are not familiar with this movie, it is written by Brett Easton Ellis who also did classics such as American Psycho and Less than Zero.  The movie takes place in Los Angeles in the early 80's, and is filled with a star studded cast such as Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder, and Billy Bob Thornton.  To say this movie was bad would be a gross understatement. I found myself wondering how so many good actors could make such a bad movie.  The movie itself is filled with actual music, as well as musical references  from the 80's throughout the two hour marathon.  So I ask this question, can a really bad movie be saved by a really good soundtrack?  Or even better can a so so movie become a great movie with a few choice cuts? So I attempted to put a list together of my favorite movies based on the movies soundtrack. This turned out to be a difficult task as every time I thought yeah that has to be on the list another great movie soundtrack comes to mind.  So I will give you a few of my favorites in no particular order, please feel free in giving me some feedback and let me know some of your favorite movie soundtracks as well.

Moore Fire's "Fire Movie Soundtracks"

Purple Rain- Prince playing himself like no one else can.  Can anyone forget Darling Nikki?

The Doors-  After watching Val Kilmer's  portrayal of Jim Morrison tell me you didn't go buy the Doors Greatest Hits.

Singles-  The Singles Soundtrack was filled with the Greatest of Grunge, from Alice in Chains to Pearl Jam, to Smashing Pumpkins. If you don't have this soundtrack, you are seriously sleeping.

Boiler Room- Biggie, Dj Premier, Tribe Called Quest, Brand Nubian.  The soundtrack screams NY hip hop.

Now in case you've been living in a shell these days it seems as if everyone is trying to create this 80's pop, synthetic sound.  Heck even Diddy is trying to get in on the party with his new group "Dirty Money".  With his new album being released titled "Last Train from Paris", I can only imagine how much of the remainder of the album is going to sound like a poorly cloned version of 80's pop music.  So today I leave you with Dirty Money's new single "Love Come Down", I hope you like it better than I did. Just to even out the score I've included a couple blasts from the past from the 80's,  Devo and Flock of Seagulls.  Stay tuned for the first Moore Fire complete album review this week. Until then remember your best form of transportation might just be a leap of faith.......

Do you remember the old commercial where the guys slips and drops his chocolate bar in the peanut butter and magically a Reeses cup is discovered?  That’s kind of how I envision mash ups were created.  Some DJ was in the mix and mistakenly grabs the wrong record, and bam he realizes damn this Van Halen sounds kind of righteous with this EPMD.  I remember being exposed to mash ups in the earliest form out in LA around 12 years ago.  I was at a big party for a large marketing firm I was working for at the time.  To give you an idea of how truly off the meter this party was, the main entertainment was Dita Von Teese.  For those unfamiliar with Dita she is a burlesque dancer and ex-girlfriend of Marilyn Manson.  Her act that night consisted of her doing a burlesque dance in a giant martini glass, while seductively squeezing water from an over sized olive all over her body.  I will leave you with that image as I continue. The music that night was provided by a DJ, who I can’t even tell you his name. But  I do remember him seamlessly mixing rock and roll classics with classic hip hop tunes and being amazed.  No he wasn’t creating mash ups, but he was definitely onto something.  I remember thinking this is way to progressive for Indianapolis.  If I only had my father’s record collection right now I’d walk right up to the DJ booth and say show me what you can do with this Steely Dan, yeah yeah!!!!

My fascination with mash ups stems partly because you must have a good knowledge of different genres of music to begin with.  Once you have the knowledge then you have to figure out what is really going to sound good together. Is this Led Zeppelin really going to sound nice with Shakira?  Fast forward 12 years later and mash ups have hit the main stream. Few DJ’s did mash ups better than DJ AM, may he  RIP.  DJ AM was responsible for really taking mash ups to the next level.  He set the stage for other artists such as Girl Talk, The Hood Internet, Diplo and many other DJ’s to experiment with a new sound.  Today is a three for the price of one featuring Diplo, Girl Talk and Indy’s own Kid Delicious so enjoy the treat.  Who got the fire?  Better yet who got Moore Fire!!!!!!!!

Kid Delicious- Down with the Queen

Girl Talk- Here's the Thing

Depending on how long you may have known me, will also determine how you know me. You may know me as AM, AMO, Ki Double, Van Gogh, A Money, or maybe even the guy who stole your girlfriend. That being said allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is Aaron Moore aka the new contributing author to the newly remodeled Crush Entertainment site. So when my good friend Indiana Jones asked me to check out his newly revamped website, imagine my surprise when I see www.crushentertainment .com had received a face lift that would make even Joan Rivers jealous. Now Jones, who has been known to have an eye for talent, saw that Indy’s biggest music geek/closet DJ remained unsigned, well let’s just say the rest is history. So my column/blog/delirious rantings will from this day forward be referred to as “Moore Fire”. Catchy huh? Another one of Jones hidden talents, catchy column names.

Without further ado we attend to today’s featured artist, Jay Z. Now if you’re anything like me you anticipate a new Jay-Z album like you anticipate Kim Kardashian in a mini skirt two sizes small. Well maybe not that much, but you get the point. I’ve had the pleasure to preview Blueprint 3, you know Jigga got me on speed dial right? Well my favorite track so far is a track called Empire State of Mind with Alicia Keys. Simply put this song makes you love New York, as if you needed a reason to love the hip hop Mecca. Alicia Keys chorus on this is sick, all the while Jigga reminds you why he is King of New York. Enough babbling, this is a music blog so you decide. Remember lay your game flat, stack your chips high and when someone asks you who got the Fire. Tell them you got “Moore Fire”.
