RIP Mr. Magic

As a Hoosier, I would look forward to anyone that would come to school with a copy of a mr magic/ marley marl tape. some of my friends would go to ny for the summer and one year one kid moved to Indy from NY and brought a gang of tapes. Hearing Ultimate 3 MCs, Beat Box Boys, Boogie Boys, Stetsasonic and others helped shape my BBoy Formation at a Young Age. RIP Mr. Magic
One of Hip Hop's earliest radio allies, pioneering deejay John "Mr. Magic" Rivas died, which has been confirmed by numerous sources in and around the Rap industry. In addition to being one of the culture's gatekeepers through his position at radio station at 105.9 WHBI FM, Mr. Magic is considered to be a co-founder of The Juice Crew, the legendary 1980s outfit of Marley Marl, MC Shan Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Roxanne Shante, Fly Ty Williams, Biz Markle, Craig G, TJ Swan, Masta Ace and Tragedy Khadafi.
The Mr. Magic Disco Showcase, his radio show since 1979, evolved to Mr. Magic's Rap Attack, a show on WBLS in 1983. This program was responsible for branding many of the Juice Crew members, and proved to be an instrumental platform in the feud between The Bronx and Queens, as scene by numerous records from Boogie Down Productions, MC Shan and Roxanne Shante.
Magic released numerous Rap compilations in the late 1980s and early '90s, profiling numerous rappers that he had cosigned throughout his deejaying tenure. The trio of Notorious B.I.G. ("Juicy"), Nas ("Halftime") and 2Pac ("Old School").
From 1985 through 1989, Mr. Magic released over five volumes of Mr. Magic's Rap Attack on Profile Records. These releases were compilations of popular Rap songs on independent labels. In recent years, Mr. Magic most notably hosted Wildstyle Pirate Radio on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
HipHopDX extends our sympathy to Mr. Magic's family, friends and millions influenced by his gifts to Hip Hop.

"I WANT TO SEND OUT THE UTMOST RESPECT AND CONDOLENCES TO THE MEMORY OF JOHN RIVAS----aka MR. MAGIC
HE PASSED AWAY THIS MORNING OF A HEART ATTACK.....
TRUE HIP HOP HEADS KNOW THAT HIS HISTORY IS SO LONG
DUE TO HIM BEING THE FIRST RAP MIXSHOW TO EVER BE ON COMMERCIAL RADIO ON NEW YORK'S WBLS--(107.5) WITH MARLEY MARL AND FLY TY IN 1982-1984.......THEN WENT ON TO WHBI IN OCTOBER OF 1984 AND THEN
BACK TO WBLS in 1985 and WDAS in Philly SIMULTANEOUSLY
HE PAVED THE WAY FOR ALL RADIO STATIONS THAT EVER DID MIXSHOWS AND ALSO SPARKED THE CAREER OF BOOGIE DOWN PRODUCTIONS DUE TO THE DISS HE SHOWED WHEN THEY CAME TO SHOP THEIR DEMO TO HIM AND WAS TURNED AWAY WHICH THEN SPARKED "SOUTH BRONX" AND "THE BRIDGE IS OVER".......
HE WAS KNOWN FOR HIS DIRECT AND SARCASTIC ATTITUDE ON THE AIR AND EVERY ARTIST WANTED HIS APPROVAL WHEN IT CAME TO BREAKING NEW RECORDS........HE EVEN HAD SONGS DEDICATED TO HIM BY THE LEGENDARY WHODINI--("MR. MAGIC'S WAND") WHICH WAS SURPRISINGLY PRODUCED BY ONE OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS THOMAS DOLBY.......
SHOUTS OUT TO MARLEY MARL AND FLY TY FOR THE CORRECT INFORMATION ON THIS......
REST IN PEACE MR. MAGIC.............DJ PREMIER"

Taxi Cab Rappers: Hip-Hop Taxi Driver Turns Cab into Recording Studio...
Perhaps it's late afternoon and you're stuck in traffic on the 110 North after arriving at LAX, or perhaps it's 2 a.m. and you and some friends have wadded together enough beer-soaked bills to get a safe ride home from the bar. Whichever the case, you're stuck in a taxi with a driver that has seen and heard it all before, but you've probably never seen a taxi like this, ever. Despite its standard blue and yellow Checker Cab exterior, once inside it becomes obvious that Taxi No. 3502 is not your normal taxi, and Lonnie "Wisefool the Cab Driver" McCreery is not your average cab driver. No, you still can't smoke inside and, yes, he still only carries five dollars in change, but Wisefool's taxi doubles as a mobile recording studio for spoken-word poets, rappers and any fare who has the freestyle skills to get on the mic. The good thing? It doesn't cost a penny extra. Also a musician, Wisefool first decided to convert his cab into a mobile recording studio in 2009 after realizing that five years spent circling the airport terminal and babysitting drunks had left him with little time to work on his own music. He equipped Taxi No. 3502 with microphones, a laptop and Pro-Tools, all powered through the cab's cigarette-lighter converter, and soon Wisefool was recording more than just himself, but also some of underground hip-hop's finest, which he now documents on camera as part of his "Off the Meter" video series. From rappers Kosha Dillz, Black Skeptik and Verbs, to impromptu sessions with surprisingly well-versed Valley girls, if you've got what it takes to lay down a track while cabbing through L.A., then "Wisefool the Cab Driver" has you covered, seven days a week. T-Pain Successful Freestyle - Jay-Z Apology

If you aren't up on the latest in "beef".. here's the short story. T-Pain is djing in Las Vegas and talking shit on the mic about Jay. Jay responds with a fuck T-Pain, then T-Pain responds with some Age-ism referring to Jay's age. The result - this Track where T-Pain freestyles over Drake's Successful and gives a heartfelt apology to Jay as well as defends his "average" looking wife. I mean, I know a few rappers who dumped their wives/girlfriends once they got a little paper so this, to me, is a good look! Dudes stick by your bitches LOL.
“Some people call it being soft, some people call it bitching up…I just gotta be, I just gotta be more careful….so that Nuvo got me poppin’ s–t, and even worse, the people around me ain’t knockin it…alright, so lets talk about the Jay shit. Some days I wish I never say shit, and Diddy said ain’t no excuse for what I did, but I felt like he was knocking the same shit that feeds my kids…and Jay one of the only n out here bringing it, so I didn’t think he would even entertain the shit. Cuz entertainment is see-thru but if you really feel like I’m dead, then me too. I ain’t tryin to write your rhymes but you coulda skipped one DJ and all you had to say is, “T-pain, we cool.” But by all means, don’t take this as a diss or hatin’, I just wanna explain my side of the situation, so if you knew how much respect that I have, you’d know I’m a real n when I say, “My bad.”
(*the section about people hating on his “regular-looking” wife is somewhat heartwarming but also obtuse, because no, Pain is not the only one featuring video models of different skin tones, whether those castings are calculated or not.)

Pull my finger: Jihadist who blew himself up on Saudi prince's private jet hid explosives in his anus
Talk About a Dirty Bomb!
"Saudi tightens security to protect oil plants," from GulfNews, August 31 (thanks to Iraq the Model):
KHOBAR, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia has tightened security at oil facilities after the country's anti-terror chief, Deputy Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, escaped a suicide attack, guards at Abqaiq, the world's biggest oil processing plant, said yesterday....Al Qaeda, meanwhile, claimed responsibility for the suicide attack and said that the bomber, Abdullah Hassan Taleh Al Asiri, had managed to pass security checkpoints and board a private aircraft, Site Intelligence said yesterday.
A statement posted on jihadist forums by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula said Al Asiri passed through checkpoints at Najran airport, near the Yemeni border, and Jeddah airport, the US monitoring service said.
He then boarded Prince Mohammed's private jet with his explosives, according to the statement, which said he finally blew himself up amongst the prince's guards. The site also published a picture of Asiri.
Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV said Asiri was a 23-year-old Saudi whose brother Ibrahim was also on the wanted list.
It said the attacker concealed the explosives in his anus, allowing him to evade detection.
The network also quoted an expert as saying that the method of concealment aimed the blast away from the target, while blowing the bomber to bits....
